A Sports Fan's Dream

While most of the country slips into a deep hibernation caused by one too many holiday feasts, the greater Phoenix/Scottsdale area is buzzing with energy during the winter months. From sporting events to festivals and other attractions, there’s never a shortage of winter activities in the Valley of the Sun.
Some of our more famous guests during the winter months include a number of sports teams who migrate to Arizona to escape the biting cold weather. Here is a sample of the big events taking place in the area this winter:
- The BCS National Championship - The University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale will be the center of the sports universe on January 10, as the top two teams in college football clash for the National Championship. Just a short drive from the Resort, this winner-takes-all battle will bring a palpable energy to the greater Phoenix area.
- The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl - This New Year's Day BCS bowl game is an annual tradition. Fans from all over the country flock to Glendale to cheer on their team and enjoy some prime tailgating weather.
- Rock-N-Roll Marathon - Not every winter sporting event is just for watching! If you're up for the task, the Rock-N-Roll Marathon on January 16 is one of the most unique races you'll ever endure. Live bands and rock-themed water stations dot the course to kick start your energy level and help you cross the finish line.
- Waste Management Phoenix Open - Known by golf enthusiasts as the "Greatest Show on Grass," the WM Phoenix Open brings the PGA's top golfers to the TPC Scottsdale from January 31 - February 6 to compete for a title and raise money for local charities.
- Barrett Jackson Scottsdale - American muscle cars and Hot Rods dominate the floor at the world's premier collector car auction. Originating in Scottsdale over 40 years ago, Barrett Jackson returns to its roots this January to wow another packed house of auto enthusiasts.
